CELEBRATING CHRIST
I am writing this letter concerning the events that have taken place this Christmas season in Marietta. I am very disappointed in the folks who raised the question or idea of removing religious decorations from Cisler Park as well as the Nativity from the courthouse.
Let me ask this question to those who may have forgotten: Why do we celebrate Christmas? The answer is very simple. On this holiest of holidays, we celebrate Christmas for the birth of Jesus Christ. The day is not called X-mas, but CHRISTmas. On Dec. 25 of every year, we take this day to celebrate Christ. Not just His birth, but also all He has given.
Christmas is also the season for giving. Christ also received gifts on this day. The Three Kings brought Him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.
I would never have thought such an idea as removing religious decorations from parks and other places in Marietta could ever have been suggested. This country was and still is based on God. Yes, this year the decorations will not come down. But what about next year or the years to come?
There have been many things happen over the last 20 or so years that have slowly caused us all to forget. We have taken prayer out of schools. I am 27 years old. When in the third and fourth grades; my teachers then, who I am very proud and honored to say were Mr. Gale Lauderman and Mrs. Frankie Grimm, always had our class say grace before going to lunch. Also at that time, we never began a school day without saying "The Pledge of Allegiance." We are "One nation under God." How many of you who are reading this can remember the words to "The Pledge of Allegiance?"
Each Christmas season, you might consider doing what my family does every year. Before gathering the kids, parents and grandparents around the tree, before tearing open packages of toys, gadgets and other material things; take the time to open the Bible and read one of the greatest stories ever told. This story can be found in the book of Luke, Chapter 2.
Jesus is the reason for the season!
